Big Rock has made the decision to adopt Earthrings on its canned beverage packages, and they are also changing the quantities sold at one time. From now on there will be packs of eight. The company has decided to eliminate plastic rings and replace them with “ground rings” that are designed to reduce packaging waste and are made from multiple layers of solid fiberboard with a biodegradable, moisture-resistant coating. They are 100% recyclable, compostable and made with environmentally friendly inks, providing an eco-friendly alternative to traditional plastic packaging.
Earthrings have a lower environmental impact because they decompose naturally and can also be recycled or composted. This does not detract from their strength and can securely hold and protect the cans.
It is estimated that this transition will divert 23,529 kg of packaging waste annually from the landfill.
In May of this year, Big Rock also installed two new pieces of equipment that automatically join cans with Earthrings.
