Beiersdorf and Ball Corporation have reached a key milestone in their strategic alliance by ensuring that all Beiersdorf aerosols in Europe are made from 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) aluminum packaging. This achievement represents a major advancement for sustainable packaging and the circular economy.
The initiative began with a pilot project in 2024 which, following its success, enabled the complete rollout of these 100% PCR aluminum containers across the entire region during the past year. As a result, most NIVEA MEN spray deodorants and a selection of 8×4 aerosols now use these sustainable containers.
This transition enables Beiersdorf to significantly reduce emissions associated with its aluminum packaging. Likewise, for Ball, this milestone reinforces its leadership in Europe and demonstrates its extensive expertise in circularity and lightweighting, as part of its global commitment to science-based decarbonization goals.
Beyond the environmental benefits, this collaboration demonstrates the technical and commercial viability of using fully recycled aluminum at scale, reflecting both companies’ commitment to responsible design and responsible business practices.
“This is more than a packaging innovation; it is a significant step toward true circularity and a major contribution to our Sustainability Agenda,” stated Kelvin Oecksler, Global Director of Packaging Development at Beiersdorf AG. “We aim to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045 and, to do so, we must integrate solutions that make a real contribution not only to the planet, but also to our consumers and our business. Our strategic cooperation with Ball fully meets that objective.”
“This achievement reflects our conviction in the infinite potential that aluminum has to drive a waste-free world,” indicated Victoria Marletta, Vice President of Personal and Home Care at Ball Corporation. “It is proof that sustainability and commercial success can go hand in hand, and supports our global commitment to reduce absolute emissions by 55% by 2030.”
Aluminum is a truly circular material: it can be recycled over and over again without losing quality. Recycling aluminum consumes 95% less energy than producing it from raw materials, and approximately 75% of all aluminum ever produced remains in circulation today. This milestone is a call to action for the industry: accelerate circularity, collaborate across the value chain, and adopt solutions that benefit both businesses and the planet. Together, we are creating packaging that meets consumers’ sustainability expectations without compromising quality or design. Ball continues to innovate with lighter containers, advanced decoration, and future-ready solutions, reinforcing our commitment to a net-zero future.
