The Valencian aluminum company Baux has installed a new tilting rotary melting furnace that will increase the production capacity of its Segorbe plant to 84,000 tons per year. This expansion considerably improves the production of aluminum coils, applying hot and cold rolling, which is exported to 12 countries.
The new furnace, one of the largest in Europe, required an investment of five million euros. This is in addition to the two furnaces currently operating at the Alto Palancia plant, which currently generate 52,000 tons of hot aluminum sheets per year.
The company uses already used aluminum as raw material, since it is a material that can be recycled several times. Each year, it transforms some 67,000 tons of scrap into another 50,000 tons of aluminum. Applying the maxim of circular economy, thus contributing to environmental sustainability, preventing aluminum cans or window profiles from ending up in landfills. In this context, the company, like the rest of the group, is certified as the aluminum producer with the lowest carbon footprint in Europe.
The Segorbina company is integrated into the Baux Group which, in turn, was acquired in 2018 by the American group Jupiter Aluminium; after a restructuring process undertaken by the NK5 fund that took control of the company.
The new melting furnace, which is more powerful than the two existing ones, is located in the existing hall. The company has had to modify the height of the structure to install the new bag filter and the suction hood that captures and purifies the gases and particles emitted during aluminum smelting, which are “the most advanced pollution prevention and control systems”. The overall investment amounted to some five million euros and involved the incorporation of 12 new employees, whose training was also provided by the company.
