Suvinil, BASF’s decorative paint brand, announced the improvement and upgrade of its reverse logistics program in Brazil, with the objective of accommodating the proper disposal of leftover paint, as well as the recycling of steel containers.
And 86% of Brazilian consumers have to deal with paint residue after finishing painting. However, only 25% know the correct way to dispose of used containers. To meet this demand, Suvinil has successfully created its own reverse logistics program so that customers can take it to the right destination.
Also, remember that paint companies must dispose of containers directly to recyclers or logistics operators. Therefore, empty plastic buckets, aerosols or aluminum cans can be dropped off directly at a Suvinil partner resale store. “The vendor/employee receives and stores the material in an identified drum. Then, he schedules the collection by WhatsApp. The discards remain in the store until an operator picks them up by truck and takes them for sorting,” explained from the company.
Leftover paints from post-consumer reverse logistics go through Suvinil’s analysis. If it is possible to donate them to someone or some associated project, this is done. Otherwise, everything is correctly discarded. The containers are separated and sent to recyclers. In this way, they can be converted into new materials, closing the circle.
In figures, the environmental impact is very positive since this initiative has generated more than 12,000 kg of collected material, a 45.4% recycling rate, 3.1 million liters of water saved, and energy savings of 391 kWh.
