BALL RELAUNCHES ITS ‘QUIEROLATA’ CAMPAIGN IN ARGENTINA TO PROMOTE RECYCLING
The multinational, Ball Corporation, one of the largest manufacturers of aluminum containers globally, with two production plants in Argentina, has just relaunched its campaign ‘I want can’, to further promote the use and recycling of this type of packaging in Latin America.
In Argentina, almost 80% of this post-consumer packaging is recycled. And this process consumes only 5% of the energy needed to manufacture virgin aluminium, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 95% compared to the primary production of this material. This figure is higher than the world average of 60%, well above that of Chile with 45% and lower than that of Paraguay, which has a recycling rate of 90%.
Estevão Braga, Sustainability Manager of Ball Corporation Cono Sur explains that “the movement emerged in Brazil in 2018 with the name “Vale lata”, and this year we brought it to Argentina” to which he adds that “in our production we use aluminum coils that are composed of 78% of this recycled material, in order to collaborate with the care of the environment”.
In recent years, the use of cans, especially in beverages, has grown steadily and new categories have been added, such as wine and sparkling wines. According to the global consulting firm Metaforce in Latin America, more than 60% of Brazilians and Argentines consider the sustainable characteristics of packaging when buying their beverages. In recent years, the use of cans, especially in beverages, has grown steadily and new categories have been added, such as wine and sparkling wines.
“More and more consumers are aware of the climate crisis, the exponential generation of waste and the social and environmental impacts this generates. And they are beginning to make purchasing decisions aligned with these concerns. This is why companies must align the EGS agenda (environmental, social and governance criteria) with this trend”, emphasizes Thais Moraes, Communication Director of Ball Corporation.
The multinational company Ball, with presence in 70 countries, 15 plants in Latin America and two in Argentina (in the industrial parks of Burzaco and Garin, province of Buenos Aires) set the goal of reaching 90% of recycled aluminum by 2030 in all its factories.
