The multinational Ball Corporation has released its annual combined report for 2021. The report includes a complete and detailed description of how the environmental, social and economic sustainability of the company’s global aluminum packaging is assessed.

The report also highlights Ball’s commitment to transparently share progress towards its 2030 Sustainability Goals and to integrate sustainability into all aspects of its business strategy. Dan Fisher, President and CEO, notes that “while 2021 presented challenges such as the pandemic and supply chain issues, we continue to work together as a global team to drive sustainable innovation and deliver results for shareholders, customers and our communities”. He adds that “at Ball, sustainability is a business imperative. We remain committed to driving systemic change throughout our company and industry, and the progress made in the past year is a testament to that.”

Among the many advances were those focused on renewable energy, including the supply of 44% of global electricity demand in 2021 from renewable energy, eliminating nearly 409,000 metric tons of GHG emissions year over year.

Ball achieved Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI) certification for 35 of its beverage packaging facilities in South America and EMEA. ASI certification enables Ball to create a stronger and more resilient supply chain, while underscoring the company’s commitment to source 100% of its aluminum needs from certified sustainable sources by 2030.

Increased adoption in sports and entertainment venues of Ball Aluminium Cup™ have been another of the company’s firm bets continued over time. An infinitely recyclable product that provides consumers with a better drinking experience and helps sites meet sustainability goals. In addition, more than 60% of the aluminum supplied for Ball’s aerosol containers came from low-carbon sources.
