Ball celebrates World Recycling Day with Arsenal’s junior players

World Recycling Day (March 18) was celebrated by Arsenal Football Club and global leader in sustainable aluminum packaging, Ball Corporation, with the launch of the latest edition of its social media content series, which celebrates sustainability and community and highlights that good things happen when you recycle.

Players Gabriel Martinelli, Eddie Nketiah and Matt Turner are celebrating World Recycling Day this year by surprising five 12-year-old Arsenal fans during a visit to the team’s training ground.

The content series captured the “recycling champions” enjoying a mini-training session with team players and mascot Gunnersaurus at the Colney Training Center in London.

This initiative is part of the ongoing partnership between Arsenal and the world leader in sustainable aluminum packaging, Ball Corporation, aimed at educating and raising awareness about the importance of recycling and the sustainability benefits of aluminum.

The 12-year-old Gooners, as the team’s fans are called, are from a school in north London near the Emirates Stadium and took part in this year’s Premier League Inspires challenge, with the theme of sustainability in the community. The students attracted attention with ideas for a social media campaign to activate recycling among the Arsenal fan base and an interactive game that teaches what can and cannot be recycled.

Marcel Arsand, director of sustainability and public affairs for Ball Beverage Packaging EMEA, said of the initiative, “Arsenal shares our commitment to sustainability and recycling and we are delighted to partner with such an iconic global brand to share our message that good things happen when you recycle.

The video shows the girls touring the training ground and being surprised by the appearance of three Arsenal stars, along with the team’s mascot, Gunnersaurus. In addition to asking questions of the players, the five participants also competed in a series of recycling knowledge questions and soccer skills games with the players.

Finally, it should be noted that cans are the most recycled beverage containers in the world. The UK can recycling rate is now 82%, with a European rate of 73%.
