Did you know that 75 percent of all the aluminum manufactured in the last 100 years is currently in use in different products as a result of recycling? According to the Association for Aluminum Packaging Recycling (ARPAL), all the aluminum that is recovered is recycled.
In order to maintain this recovery, ARPAL launched a new awareness campaign aimed at the recycling of aluminum containers. The objective is none other than to emphasize that this type of packaging should be deposited in the yellow container, for subsequent separation and recycling, as it is the most valuable packaging material on the market since, according to the organization, it is an excellent raw material for new products, as it does not lose its properties.
This year’s campaign focuses on a series of nine covers and nine informative videos that help identify aluminum containers, from yogurt lids to aluminum food containers to aerosol cans, so that none are left out of the yellow container.
ARPAL’s main mission is to promote as many initiatives and activities as possible to encourage and extend the habit of collecting and recycling aluminum containers in Spain, in order to contribute to the conservation of the environment and natural resources through the effective implementation of the recycling culture.
“All aluminum containers are recycled in the yellow container. From ARPAL we promote the recycling of all rigid, semi-rigid and flexible aluminum containers but, due to the lack of knowledge that sometimes exists, we have developed these covers and videos to help identify the small and large, hard or flexible, from the lid of a yogurt, to the food containers of our pets, through aerosols.” said the association.
“Because recycling aluminum is very important, both for the environment and for the economy. All aluminum that is recovered is recycled because aluminum is the most valuable packaging material on the market. In addition, recovered aluminum is an excellent raw material for remanufacturing aluminum products because it does not lose its properties in the recycling process.” added ARPAL.
Another advantage of aluminum recycling, and no less important, is energy savings, since manufacturing aluminum products from recycled aluminum saves 95% of the energy required to produce it from bauxite ore. In addition, according to Directive (EU) 2018/852, 50% of aluminum packaging must be recycled by 2025 and 60% by 2030, a target included in Spanish legislation.
