The Association of European Packaging Steel Producers, APEAL, has just launched a campaign to help communicate the benefits of steel packaging to a much wider audience. Specifically, the association has designed an information package to help stakeholders and social media influencers communicate the benefits of steel packaging to consumers.

The comprehensive information package has been developed to ensure that it is accessible and can be used effectively. It addresses issues such as food waste, packaging waste, recycling and the vital role that steel packaging must play in food preservation. In addition, the association is already working closely with governments, regulators, brands, packaging designers and manufacturers to ensure that steel is understood and appreciated as a high-performance, sustainable, safe and resource-efficient packaging material.

In this regard Alexis Van Maercke, secretary general of APEAL, stresses that “this package will help stakeholders along the value chain who are actively talking to consumers about packaging, food waste and recycling by providing useful facts and figures, as well as a set of communication materials that can be used free of charge.”

He reiterates that “food waste is one of the major challenges facing society in the coming years. It is therefore vital that we continue to raise awareness of the crucial role played by steel packaging that helps reduce waste at every stage of the supply chain and in the home.”

Finally, Maercke adds that “it is also important to remember that steel packaging is a proven model of circularity, as it is the easiest and most economical packaging material to recover from any waste stream simply by using a magnet, and can be recycled forever without loss of quality.” The campaign has been launched in Germany and is scheduled to be rolled out across Europe in the coming months.
