Next September, the city of Vigo will become the world capital of the canning sector. About 400 managers of the tuna sector from more than 40 countries will meet next September 14 and 15 during the celebration of the XI Anfaco World Tune Conference, which will be held at the headquarters of Afundación.
This meeting will allow these executives from the five continents to address the future challenges of tuna and its sustainable management. Spain is one of the leading producers of canned and prepared products in the European Union and second in the world behind Thailand.
The general secretary of Anfaco-Cecopesta, Roberto Alonso, advanced that the Olympic city will become the world capital of the tuna, canning and seafood processing sector and its auxiliary industries.

This event will be attended by executives from five continents from countries such as Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, the United States, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Thailand, Taiwan, Papua New Guinea and the United Arab Emirates, among many others.

The attendance of representatives from all these countries means that 90% of the world’s canned tuna production will be present during the conference, whose previous editions closed with a resounding success in terms of participation.

Currently, tuna is a product of great importance in the seafood processing industry worldwide, giving meaning to a very competitive tuna fleet. It should also be noted that tuna accounts for almost 70% of canned fish and seafood production in our country by volume.
With simultaneous translation in English, French and Spanish, top international speakers and attendees will discuss the latest developments in the tuna sector at a global level, as well as the relevant aspects that affect its competitiveness. In this way, a real meeting point will be made available to the seafood processing and canning industry sector, the tuna fleet, tuna traders and their auxiliary industries, where different forums for analysis and debate on those aspects that arouse interest in a product of such importance as tuna will be held.

Some of the topics to be addressed will be the new value propositions based on tuna, tuna -18ºC, beyond canning, tuna stocks and their sustainable management, the European Commission promoting sustainability, as well as Innovation & technology.

During the Conference, other parallel activities are planned in which ten stands for companies and organizations will exhibit and promote their products, equipment, machinery and services.

The Tuna Awards aim to highlight the industry’s efforts in digitisation and sustainability and to reward innovative companies and initiatives. In this second edition, six tuna-related projects focused on innovation will be distinguished in the categories of Revolution 4.0 and Blue Transition.
