ANFACO-CECOPESCA has received in its facilities the visit of members of the executive of the Socialist Party of Galicia (PSdeG-PSOE), with the aim of addressing the state of the sector and reviewing various current issues that impact on the competitiveness of the maritime complex.

In this meeting, the history of actions developed between ANFACO and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food since 2022 has been updated to resolve the exclusion of investments in the sea-industry sector within the PERTE Agri-Food on the occasion of Regulation (EU) 651/2014. We worked with Brussels providing data and information to the ministry and summary of technological needs, until obtaining the approval that is confirmed with the recent publication of regulatory bases, pending the call for aid. The expectation of the sector is to mobilize up to 100 million euros of investment within the PERTE MAR-INDUSTRIA to serve as a catalyst for the green and digital transition, assuming the challenges and regulatory requirements of the European Union or consumer trends.

ANFACO requests to evaluate a new call for proposals in view of a possible extension of the allocation period of NEXT GENERATION funds beyond 2026, as well as to open a request for a review of Regulation (EU) 651/2014 to eliminate the aforementioned exclusion.

Strategic aspects for the sector were also discussed, such as the need to increase the consumption of fish and seafood in the Spanish population, and that school canteens are part of this strategy by recognizing in the new Royal Decree in the pipeline the recommended patterns of 3 or more servings per week; The collaboration maintained with the Autonomous Communities and the MAPA to regulate imitation vegan products to avoid misleading the consumer under the alliance of the food sector #CadaCosaPorSuNombre; or especially, the open negotiating process between the European Union and Thailand to obtain a Free Trade Agreement, with Spain requesting the total exclusion of tuna in the same.

In this regard, the presence of Spanish MEPs in the committees of the European Parliament was reviewed, being important for the sector their presence in the International Trade (INTA), Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI); or Fisheries (PECH). Specifically, in PECH, the recent incorporation of the Galician, Nicolás González (S&D), was mentioned, but also ANFACO’s demand for maximum collaboration between Spanish colleagues, as in the case of the president of PECH, Carmen Crespo (PPE), or in matters of trade agreements in INTA, always with the aim of seeking agreements for the benefit of Spanish interests given the complexity of Brussels.
