Next Thursday and Friday, Vigo will be the nerve center of the global tuna industry, since the National Association of Cannery Manufacturers (Anfaco) will hold its World Tuna Conference in Afundación. Some 300 tuna managers from five continents will be present to address the challenges and concerns associated with this uncertainty. These companies represent more than 80% of the global canned tuna market, including the canning, processing, marketing and tuna fleet.
Specifically, Vigo will have the opportunity to host the eleventh edition of the Anfaco World Tuna Conference, better known as “Tuna Vigo 2023”. The conference will bring together a significant number of tuna industry executives from five different continents and their respective countries: Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Netherlands, United States, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Mexico, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Thailand, Philippines, Taiwan, Indonesia and United Arab Emirates. It will be held at Afundación.
Anfaco-Cecopesca created in 1995 the ‘International Forum on Conservation of Fishery Products of Galicia’, an event driven by a simultaneous translation service that offers the opportunity to discuss various topics related to tuna, such as proposals to improve its marketing, storage and conservation at low temperatures, the steps taken by the European Commission towards sustainability, as well as technological innovation and the current context of the tuna market in different regions of the world.
The main objective of this meeting will focus on the dissemination of the work done to promote digitization and sustainability, as well as to recognize innovative companies and projects.
In addition, a large group of top-level experts will address issues of great concern to farmers and exporters (of tuna specifically), such as improving the price of their products, the problem of brine with tuna, the rules for controlling stocks, or the strategies proposed by Brussels to promote sustainable development.
This tuna congress will also develop other parallel activities for the presentation of its proposals. In this second edition of the Tuna Awards, the competition that honors the industry’s efforts in digitalization and sustainability and rewards innovative initiatives. On this occasion, six projects will be distinguished in the categories of Revolution 4.0 and Blue Transition. The resolution of the awards will take place at the Celta’s headquarters in the Royal Hall.
Simultaneously with the conference, an exhibition called Tuna Factory Exhibition will be held. This exhibition will have ten pavilions where equipment, products and machinery related to the tuna fishing industry will be presented.
