The Ministry of the Sea and the national association of manufacturers of canned fish and seafood Anfaco-Cecopesca have renewed their collaboration in order to promote and improve the marketing of canned fishery products with the aim of boosting the competitiveness of the sector and fostering its growth. This agreement has been ratified by the Regional Minister of the Sea, Rosa Quintana, and the Secretary General of Anfaco-Cecopesca, Juan Manuel Vieites.
The head of Mar details that the collaboration has a contribution by the Xunta de Galicia of 149,000 euros, co-financed by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (FEMP), to which are added another 149,000 euros provided by Anfaco-Cecopesca. With this agreement, different actions are being developed to promote and disseminate the quality of processed seafood products with the aim of increasing the knowledge of the general public about them and boosting the development of the sector’s companies in this field.
Rosa Quintana points out that the actions planned at the beginning of the agreement include the holding of conferences on current and innovative topics such as digital transformation, marketing, R&D&I, sustainability of the activity or internationalization, among others. This type of meeting, he stresses, seeks to promote the adaptation and recycling of the industrial fabric in order to successfully face its challenges and challenges and to enable it to continue growing and expanding.
One of the activities included in the collaboration is the preparation of in-depth analyses of the domestic canned fish and seafood market in order to understand consumer tastes and adapt to the strategies of the seafood processing industry. Rosa Quintana recalls that this market study will make it possible to compare aspects such as consumption within households, the impact of covida-19, the behavior of different buyers/consumers and to identify both specific trends and growth rates or improvements in the shopping and consumption experience.
The agreement also addresses the need to promote processed market products internationally by attending trade fairs to be quoted in other markets, contacting buyers or importers in other countries and promoting the activity of the Galician industry. In this regard, the collaboration includes attendance at international food fairs such as Alimentaria (April 4 to 7) and SIAL Paris (September 15 to 19).
Likewise, the representative of the Galician Executive emphasizes that at the beginning of these events there will be presentations and tastings of Galician seafood products to which producers, customers, importers, distributors and organizations and institutions will be invited to make known the quality and variety of options offered by the Galician canning sector. In this line, on the occasion of the participation in SIAL Paris, a prospection of the French market will be carried out by visiting different points of sale for the analysis of the supply of fishery and aquaculture products.
The collaboration also includes workshops, tastings or showcookings in the framework of different events in order to promote the gastronomic versatility of canned seafood products and their nutritional benefits. The aim of these actions is to teach consumers how to prepare and present different recipes with these products.
