In the Argentine province of Mendoza, a group of students in charge of organizing the 57th Olympiads of the Agricultural School of General Alvear have developed an unusual and environmentally friendly initiative. They have carried out a campaign called ‘Ecolimpiadas Sustentables’, a project focused on the collection of aluminum cans that will later be transformed into medals for the competition. The project was carried out jointly with students from the Jorge Barraquero Technical School, personnel from the Anulén Suyai Cooperative and the Environmental Management Department of the municipality.

The director of Environmental Management, Rainero Caterbetti, points out that the Sustainable Eco-Olympics project was devised by the students of the School of Agriculture with the aim of collecting recyclable materials to later produce medals for the 57th Olympics.

To carry out the ‘Sustainable Eco-Olympics’ project, the students have had the collaboration of the Anulén Suyai Work Cooperative, who will be in charge of making the medals with recycled materials. They have also counted on the collaboration of citizens by installing several collection points on public roads where they can bring their aluminum cans and help in this ecological initiative.
