Aludium is one of the leading companies in the production of aluminum foil globally and has a presence in three plants in Europe. Recently, they have reached an agreement with Statkraft, the leading Norwegian renewable energy generation company in Europe, to purchase long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs).
It should be noted that Statkraft and Fortia Energía signed an agreement in the context of their relationship as the main independent suppliers of the Iberian electricity market. The contract, which will have a 10-year term, will become effective July 1, 2024.
Thanks to this strategic partnership, Aludium will ensure that more than one-third of its annual energy consumption comes from renewable sources. Its goals for 2025 include significantly reducing carbon emissions, using clean energy in production, creating products with low carbon footprint certification, increasing aluminum recycling and maintaining high standards in environmental certifications to boost the fight against climate change.
Aludium has signed an agreement with the aim of accelerating the elimination of carbon emissions in its industrial activities and promoting the use of renewable and clean energies. CEO Lionel Chapis says this agreement is an important step towards achieving its goal of using only renewable energy in its electricity consumption by 2025. It also mentions that this action is part of its strategy to combat climate change and contribute to a more sustainable and healthy planet for current and future generations.
Statkraft’s Head of Origin in Iberia, Tiago Thomaz, emphasized that this agreement demonstrates how the company is an important partner for heavy industry, supporting it on its path towards decarbonization and enabling it to continue to generate jobs and well-being in a sustainable manner. According to Thomaz, a net-zero emissions future will only be possible if industry also commits to the goal, as Aludium is doing.
According to Juan Temboury, CEO of Fortia Energía, the main purpose of this agreement is to reduce emissions and diversify supply sources, which would be essential to reduce uncertainty in the electricity market for both generators and consumers. The long-term partnership established with Statkraft since 2018 demonstrates Fortia Energia’s commitment to playing an important role in the transition to cleaner energy and decarbonization in various industries.
