Amag Rolling GmbH has given the go-ahead for the supply of a new belt surface treatment line for its Austrian plant in Ranshofen. The new line will generate an annual production of close to 30,000 tons and will also include an integrated wastewater treatment plant.

In addition, the facility will feature state-of-the-art equipment with a high-efficiency projection system, which has been designed for both hot-rolled and cold-rolled strip to cover the broad portfolio of products produced by Amag Rolling. Throughout the surface treatment, an autonomous coil transport will bring the coils to the line and then collect the processed coils, in order to reduce the CO2 footprint as well as a lower consumption of resources.

In recent years, the company has made a firm commitment to improve its operations in order to increase production, guarantee the quality of its products, open a center for material innovation, modernize existing heat treatment, cold rolling and hot rolling lines, and install the largest rooftop photovoltaic system in Austria.

To facilitate this, such a line will allow for quick product changeovers and, therefore, very flexible production planning. In addition, the new line has been designed to support the specifications required for the production of products with a glossy surface finish.

This system is supported by Metris Intelligent Coil, an innovative digital solution developed by Andritz Automation, which will record all coil-specific production data and provide support for optimizing quality and productivity, as well as achieving and verifying sustainability targets. It is expected to be operational by mid-2023.
