Apeal Secretary General Wolfgang Trunk illustrated how the new PPWR proposal aims to reduce packaging going to landfill. “Interpack our vision is zero steel to landfill by 2025. We are in favor of an internal market regulation and legal basis. In addition, we have suggested a proposal for high quality recycling,” said the executive.
The packaging industry is of elementary importance to all other industries. No product is conceivable without the sometimes very complex processes involved in its manufacture, no matter how small or large a company or product may be. All industries need smart packaging strategies along the entire value chain, including warehousing, logistics and administration. This overall global relevance of interpack topics and the high level of exhibitors and visitors make interpack in Düsseldorf an international meeting place for a highly qualified specialist audience every three years.
APEAL brings together the six European packaging steel producers: Acciaierie d’Italia, ArcelorMittal, Liberty Liège-Dudelange, Tata Steel, thyssenkrupp Rasselstein and U.S. Steel Košice. APEAL’s mission is a commitment to generate understanding and support for steel as a sustainable and resource efficient packaging solution, to contribute positively to the development of EU policy related to steel for packaging, especially in the areas of waste, recycling and recovery, to document, support and communicate the environmental, social and economic benefits of steel for packaging, to monitor technical developments to ensure industry compliance
