The project that has been baptized with the name ‘Portraits of the Earth’ is an initiative that aims to highlight art and photography as a form of expression in Poços de Caldas, Brazil.
About 20 young people assisted by the Asociación Benéfica de Apoyo Comunitario (Abaco) are participating in this second edition, which is sponsored by the multinational Alcoa through the Federal Culture Incentives Act.
In addition to attending a workshop with Karina Bacci, photographer and curator of the project, participants, accompanied by local photographer Bruno Alves, will be able to go out into the countryside to record images of the city, in order to show the local community and the aspects that characterize the culture of the municipality.
On his part, Fábio Costa, from Alcoa’s Institutional Affairs sector, confirmed that “this edition will mark a moment in the history of the city and in the lives of these young people. They are getting to know, learning and experiencing the world of photography, which is magical and artistic”.
In November, when Poços de Caldas turns 150 years old, the city will hold a retrospective exhibition with these photos. The material produced will also be printed in a catalog, with audio description for the visually impaired.
