Multinational Alcoa Corporation has been recognized by S&P Global through its inclusion in The Sustainability Yearbook 2022, an influential guide that provides in-depth analysis on corporate sustainability. S&P Global’s recognition follows Alcoa’s recent inclusion in two notable ESG rankings that focus on inclusion and diversity (R&D).

“Sustainability is at the heart of how we operate our business, which is reflected in both our strategic priority of Moving Forward Sustainably and our vision of reinventing the aluminum industry for a sustainable future,” says Sonya Elam Harden, executive vice president and head of External Affairs. “Our inclusion in The Sustainability Yearbook is a great achievement that reflects the accomplishments of our employees around the world and the progress we continue to make in meeting our sustainability ambitions.”

To qualify for this recognition, companies must score in the top 15 percent of their industry on S&P’s global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) to be included in The Sustainability Yearbook 2022. The CSA is used to guide leading rankings for environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance, including the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes. Those listed in the Sustainability Yearbook also had to achieve an overall S&P ESG score within the top 30 percent of the best performing company in their industry.

In addition, Alcoa was recently included in the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index, a national benchmarking tool on corporate policies, practices and benefits relevant to LBGTQ+ employees.

Also separately, the company is also included in the Bloomberg LP Gender Equality Index, which recognizes the company’s efforts to attract, retain and empower women in the workplace. Alcoa was one of 418 companies included in the list, which tracks the performance of public companies committed to supporting gender equality through policy development, representation and transparency.

In 2021, Alcoa made several strategic announcements that build on its ESG performance legacy, including the ambition to achieve net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across all global operations by 2050, including Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. The ambition aligns with Alcoa’s vision to reinvent the aluminum industry for a sustainable future, backed by a technology roadmap.
