AkzoNobel presented a plan to its union representatives and employees in France that includes a €22 million investment to establish the Montataire site (in the French Picardy region) as a benchmark in the production of decorative paints. This initiative reflects the company’s long-term commitment to industrial excellence and its operations in France.
These measures are designed to streamline, modernize and optimize AkzoNobel’s operations, ensuring long-term success while maintaining its strong presence in France. The proposed plan focuses on streamlining operations, which will improve competitiveness and promote sustainable growth.
The company also plans to reorganize its commercial and support function, as well as its distribution network, including the transfer of some sales outlets to independent partners and the closure of some outlets.
As a result of these operational changes, a reduction of up to 211 positions and the creation of 29 jobs in France is anticipated. The plan would be implemented progressively from May 2025 to the end of 2026. Consultation procedures with local social partners have already begun.
In 2024, as part of its Industrial Excellence program, AkzoNobel had already announced the closure of its manufacturing sites in Groot-Ammers (Netherlands), Cork (Ireland) and Lusaka (Zambia). Production at these sites has been moved to other locations in the region. The company currently employs 1,300 people in France.
