Multinational AkzoNobel has invested in a new production line for water-based textured paints at its Songjiang site in Shanghai, China, enabling it to increase its competitive capacity to supply more sustainable products.

The new plant is the company’s fourth decorative paint plant in the world. Now, with a surface area of more than 2,500 square meters, it produces all types of paints and the most varied products for interior and exterior decoration, as well as for various architectural disciplines.

China has enormous potential for all kinds of products, especially paints. Since decorative paints is one of the company’s main divisions, production will help the current leadership.

The coatings industry within China seems to have no end in sight as they continue to grow production more and more through their investments in energy conservation and emissions reduction.

“Our new production line will not only enable us to better meet market demand, but will also help optimize our supply chain so that we can serve customers more efficiently and effectively,” says Fred Moreux, AkzoNobel’s manufacturing director in Asia. “It’s also a great example of our People. Planet. Paint. approach to pioneering more sustainable products, optimizing resources and improving productivity,” he adds.

The multinational has invested almost 7.5 million euros in Songjiang since the beginning of 2021. The new production line has an advanced system that reduces VOC emissions. Other recent projects include the introduction of new solar energy systems and a more automated filling line.
