The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has warned of the presence of histamine, a toxic substance, in one-kilo cans of Montey and Didilo brand canned tuna.
AESAN has become aware of this food contamination through the Coordinated System for the Rapid Exchange of Information (SCIRI). The alert was initially launched by the health authorities of La Rioja, warning of the presence of histamine in canned tuna in sunflower oil of that brand. It is a toxin whose appearance is related to poor hygiene in food handling and poor preservation.
Initially, the product was distributed in the Autonomous Community of Valencia, but distribution in other autonomous communities is not ruled out. For the time being, there is no evidence of any reported case associated with this alert in Spain.
The AESAN recommends that people who have at home the products included in this alert refrain from consuming them and return them to the point of purchase. The manufacturer has announced that it will recall affected products still on the market. The product in question is tuna in sunflower oil of the Montey and Didilo brand, packaged in one-kilo cans (RO900 format), with lot number L03922JC and best-before date 08/02/2027.
