Aluminium Deutschland (AD) is concerned about the 25% tariff imposed by the Trump administration. As much as it is expected, this measure puts cooperation and trust between companies on both sides of the Atlantic under great pressure.

Aluminium Deutschland President Rob van Gils calls on the EU to engage in constructive dialogue and avoid an escalation in trade policy that would harm everyone.

In 2024, 51,000 tons of aluminum products were shipped from German plants to customers in the USA (15,000 tons of rolled products, 12,000 tons of extruded products and 24,000 tons of aluminum foil), which is 2% of annual production in Germany. However, over the past ten years, German producers have reduced exports to North America by almost 45%.

Van Gils added that it is necessary to be attentive to the possible effects of product diversion from third countries to the European Union: the damage can be more significant and worse for local companies.
