ACTEGA’s new facility in Brazil will offer increased production and R&D capabilities, bringing ACTEGA’s innovative solutions to more customers in Brazil and South America, and enabling ACTEGA to increase its market presence.

Ronaldo Begnossi appointed General Manager of ACTEGA do Brasil. With exceptional leadership in building successful teams and a strong customer focus, he will be responsible for overseeing the operations of the new headquarters in Brazil.

Wesel, October 5, 2023 – ACTEGA, a manufacturer of specialty coatings, inks, adhesives, sealants and compounds for the printing and packaging industries, has announced that the consolidation of its three Brazilian sites into a new 22,500 square meter facility in Araçariguama, São Paulo, is now officially complete. This state-of-the-art production and R&D center is the result of a major $7 million investment and will consolidate ACTEGA’s position as an industry leader, offering innovative solutions that meet the highest safety standards and deliver unprecedented results.

In addition, ACTEGA has appointed a new CEO of ACTEGA do Brasil, effective October 2023. Ronaldo Begnossi, a seasoned industry leader with a degree in Chemical Production Engineering and an Executive M

The new location gives ACTEGA the new status of largest manufacturer and positions the company for future growth
In 2019, ACTEGA merged the administration, production and R&D activities of its two Brazilian sites in Guarulhos and Barueri into the new headquarters in Araçariguama. With an investment of around $2 million and a total floor space of 12,000 square meters at the time, the new location had invested explicitly in new high-performance dispersion units for the production of printing inks and corresponding equipment for the production of water-based coatings. ACTEGA do Brasil thus became the largest production center for oil-based printing inks and water-based coatings in South America, serving especially customers in the metal packaging and paper and paperboard markets.

While the existing building was subsequently expanded once again to accommodate and strengthen the two- and three-piece can sealant business, ACTEGA’s third Brazilian site in Santana de Parnaíba has now also been integrated into the new location. This represents a capacity expansion of another 10,500 square meters. These additional investments amount to US$5 million and make ACTEGA Brazil’s largest manufacturer of UV and solvent-based specialty coatings and sealants for the packaging industry. The new expansion especially strengthens the activities of the metal packaging solutions business, with additional potential for coatings and adhesives in the flexible packaging sector. This step completes the large project and the overall investment.

The new global site will serve as a hub for the company’s administrative, production and R&D activities. ACTEGA is thus ideally positioned to focus on the established markets it serves, but also to explore new technologies and growth opportunities. For example, the new facility will house a team of experts focused on innovations such as INNOCAN™. ACTEGA, in collaboration with Brasilata Labs and HP-Indigo, launched this novel and cost-effective technology that meets the demand for smaller volumes with special designs in metal can production. INNOCAN™ enables offset-quality digital decoration of metal foils for 3-piece products (such as aerosol cans, food and general lines), while still meeting the protection and migration standards required for decoration materials.

In addition, the focus of Araçariguama’s development teams is a pioneering solution in the market: UV DIRECT TO METAL(1). This advanced process, which allows a UV coating to be applied directly to a substrate pretreated with atmospheric plasma, represents a major step forward in terms of sustainability. Requiring only one UV lamp to cure the coating, this new process eliminates the need for the excessive, energy-intensive gas ovens needed to dry solvent-based coatings and replaces them with more efficient and sustainable UV systems. The result is significant energy savings, faster production, reduced costs, lower VOCs and 40% lower CO2 emissions.

“Our expansion in Araçariguama gives us a unique opportunity to advance innovations like these in different market sectors. It also allows us to meet our customers’ needs faster than ever, while maintaining quality and safety standards at the highest level. Our teams of specialists, combined with this state-of-the-art facility, will undoubtedly contribute significantly to the continued growth and development of the printing and packaging industry in South America,” explains Antonio Galhardo, R&D Director at Metal Packaging Coatings.

Dr. Thomas Sawitowski, global head of the flexible packaging business line, adds: “The opening of our new facility marks an important moment for our customers and our presence in the South American market. This move demonstrates our commitment to the region and further enhances our offering of inks, coatings and other innovative products and technologies for flexible packaging solutions. It also strengthens our ability to serve the needs of our local customers from a central location with an even more targeted and customer-centric approach.”
