This increase demonstrates a greater commitment on the part of citizens and companies to care for the environment.

According to the report, a total of 570,000 tons of aluminum from cans were recycled, an increase of 60,000 tons over the previous year. This has generated savings in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions equivalent to 4.7 million tons of CO2eq. This amount is similar to the annual production of a European city such as Antwerp or Poznan, with a population of more than half a million inhabitants.

The Every Can Counts Foundation and the beverage can manufacturers, who are members of Metal Packaging Europe, together with their aluminum suppliers, integrated in European Aluminium, were pleased with the data presented. However, they also expressed their desire to set higher targets for the separate collection of beverage containers, such as aluminum cans, as proposed in the EU Packaging Regulation.

The organization Every Can Counts has issued a warning about several European Union member countries, including Spain, which are still struggling to reach a recycling level of 90% or more. According to the report, countries such as Cyprus (28%), Romania (35%), Portugal (36%) and Hungary (42%) have the lowest rates, while Germany (99%), Finland (97%), Belgium (94%), Norway (92%) and Switzerland (92%) lead the ranking with high recycling levels.

Krassimira Kazahska, the executive director of Metal Packaging Europe, has stated that the industry is on the right track to achieve full circularity of aluminum beverage cans by 2050. He also pointed out that these cans are currently one of the most recycled containers in the European market. Kazahska also pointed out that aluminum is a durable material and can be recycled multiple times without losing its properties thanks to high-quality processes.

Pablo Garcia, the director of the Every Can Counts organization in Spain, has called on the public to deposit cans in the yellow garbage cans, even when they are away from home. According to him, this brings great environmental benefits.
