Called Abricome, this Toledo-based company has made a name for itself by supplying canned food to Ukrainian troops. The company, located in the town of Los Yébenes, cooks ‘war menus’ for the Ukrainian Army.
This small family business has already shipped more than one million cans of canned goods, especially lentils with chorizo and meatballs in sauce, to the Ukrainian Army, specifically to the troops in the east.
According to Marta Herencia, the company’s manager, the conflict between Ukraine and Russia has led to a flood of orders. “There are many companies that are engaged in composing these campaign rations and that contacted us to buy canned food, but also associations of Ukrainians and international organizations,” he added.
Perhaps the success of these meals on the Donbas front lies in their preparation and nutritional properties. According to Herencia, the secret of this canned food lies in its artisanal production process. “Everything is made from start to finish in our facilities with traditional methods and using local and Castilla-La Mancha raw materials; we use traditional methods to process the ingredients and always maintaining food safety procedures,” he remarked.
The news hit the media after it was spread by a Ukrainian soldier on Telegram channel to show his food ration on the Dombash front. More than 4,500 kilometers from Toledo, the soldier showed the box with his food ration, among which lentils from ‘Abricome’, the Spanish family company founded in 1965, stood out.
