AB InBev announced the purchase of three Krones production lines for its Colombian plant in order to increase the number of bottles and cans produced.
Baviera, an old brewing company that is among the five most popular in Colombia, decided to expand its business to Palmar de Varela to continue investing in the industry they have been working with for 130 years. In order to get this back up and running at full capacity, a special order was placed with Krones to meet the requirements.
Beer has become extremely popular in Colombia, reaching third place in Latin American consumption, and the trend continues to grow. For this reason, Bavaria decided to build a bridge to obtain the benefits of the Colombian beer market by building a brewery near the seaport of Barranquilla. It has set a goal for 2025 to meet sustainability protocols for its products to have net-zero carbon emissions, in addition to manufacturing all its beverages with solar energy.
To meet Bavaria’s sustainability standards, appropriate energy-saving modules were selected for the three new lines, such as the LinaFlex pasteurizer, the Modulfill VFS-C filler for the canning line and the Modulfill HES for the glass lines, as well as a VarioClean CIP system. A supply system for the bottle washer, tunnel pasteurizer and CIP system, in which hot water replaces steam as the energy source, enables ultra-efficient distribution throughout the brewery. This allows energy from the processing area of the brewery to be recycled in the packaging department, so it does not have to be generated. It was this efficient, low-energy system from Krones, with its resource-efficient supply of resources, that instantly won Bavaria over.
