According to the International Aluminium Institute, global demand for aluminum is expected to grow by 80% by 2050. The North American industry is poised to capitalize on this need and believes that with the return of Trump’s protectionist policies, it is in a unique position to capture a significant share of this demand as a global leader in aluminum production, recycling and innovation.
American Aluminum has issued a series of industry-wide directives in pursuit of that leadership. This includes enforcing targeted trade measures to defend U.S. aluminum manufacturers against non-market players, such as China, while leveraging trade relationships with our national security partners.
AA also aims to increase aluminum retention in the U.S., strengthen the recycling infrastructure and promote policies that increase the collection, retention and sorting of scrap aluminum.
The aluminum industry wants aluminum to be recognized as a critical resource for the economy and national security by implementing a national strategy that ensures secure supply chains; access to efficient, reliable and affordable energy; and eliminates dependence on materials from non-market or adversarial countries. The United States is also asked to adopt sensible fiscal policies that facilitate greater private investment by aluminum companies.
