Any action is always welcome to combat the heat and high summer temperatures. The town of Montefrio has just announced an unusual initiative: it will give away a 25-kilo can of paint to each family in the municipality to clean their house from the haze of last March.

Thus, the City Council has launched a new beautification plan for this municipality, one of the most touristic in the province of Granada, to regain its traditional white color after having been ‘painted’ brown.

Families wishing to pick up their can of paint for exteriors (one per household) may request it at the Information desk of the City Council of Montefrío presenting the ID of any of the persons registered in the house for which the paint is requested.

The acting mayor of Montefrio, Agustin Garcia, who is convinced to return to have a beautiful and white village, said that “in August, we will make a home by home check to verify that indeed the facade for which the painting was requested has been painted. Between all of us, this summer we will have a beautiful and white town again, as we have always been”.

International tourism to Montefrío is slowly beginning to recover after the pandemic, and groups of foreigners have been arriving for months. In addition, domestic tourism in the town already exceeds 2019 levels, and all tourist records are expected to be surpassed this summer.
