A slice of lemon and the complete opening of this can, have made this new Japanese drink created by Asahi Beverages that answers to the name レモンサワー “Lemon Sour” designed in a revolutionary, out-of-the-box way. The complete opening of the can allows to find a slice of lemon inside that emerges to the surface of this new carbonated alcoholic beverage.

Specifically, each can contains a slice of dehydrated lemon of approximately 5 millimeters thick, sugar-coated and edible. According to the company, lemon extract seeps into the liquid over time, improving its taste.

Your special coating and the fully open design make a difference in the opening pressure that causes it to release. carbonic acid, generating the bubbles that allow the lemon slice to rise and float when the can has been opened. The bubbles are also finer, enhancing the flavor and producing a more powerful mouthfeel.

Asahi explains that the way the lemon slice ‘swims’ to the surface is part of the design, and helps to add a touch of excitement and fun to the drinking experience. In addition, being able to see the whole lemon slice “helps to evoke a  real cocktail sensation, and thanks to the wide mouth of the can, you can more easily feel the fresh citrus aroma of the fruit, even before you take the first sip.”

This playful approach is designed to appeal to both young consumers and early-adopters, who are looking for new experiences in the products they bring to market, which is characteristic of Japanese consumers.

In Japan, the name “sour” is generally used as a collective term for cocktails based on spirits mixed with carbonated water, fruit juice and other ingredients. Specifically, “Lemon Sour” is available in two varieties: “Original Lemon Sour” and “Plain Lemon Sour”.
