The brewery Damm suffered last Wednesday a “very serious” computer incident that has affected its operating system and that has caused the partial paralysis of the brewery’s plant in El Prat de Llobregat (Barcelona), the most important of the company in Spain.
This is a ransomware attack, a type of malicious software that encrypts documents and files, so the legitimate owner, in this case Damm, cannot access it and a payment is demanded, in exchange for the password to release the data. The brewery’s IT staff, who are working to resolve the incident and restore normal operations, have assured that so far no complaint has been filed for a possible computer attack.
The company explains that it has an important ‘stock’, in addition to the network of distributors and the different warehouses so the service is guaranteed. This incident is known days after the cyberattack suffered by MediaMarkt, which affected stores in several European countries, including Spain. The German multinational electronics company itself confirmed that the incident was caused by a ransomware attack, similar to the one suffered a few weeks ago by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
