Last year, 5.7 billion aluminium aerosols were produced worldwide, 85% of which were used in the cosmetics sector.
The Association for the Recycling of Aluminium Products (ARPAL) together with Intercoiffure and with the collaboration of ECOEMBES and AEDA have launched an advertising campaign aimed at the professional hairdressing sector to promote the recycling of aerosols in the yellow container.
Thanks to this pioneering initiative, more than a hundred salons affiliated to Intercoiffure already have a yellow container, provided by Ecoembes, where to deposit these containers in their own establishments, as well as communication tools to disseminate among their professionals and customers the importance of recycling. It has been developed jointly by Intercoiffure Spain, ARPAL and Ecoembes and has had the participation of the Spanish Association of Aerosols. The initiative is also supported by the Spanish Aerosol Association (AEDA).
These containers are highly appreciated for their properties of long conservation of the content and easy application, as well as being light and unbreakable and, like all aluminium containers, indefinitely recyclable as long as they are thrown into the yellow container to proceed with the recycling process.
From the yellow container, the aluminium aerosols go to the selection plants, where they are separated from the other materials, and from there to a waste manager, who will prepare this new raw material to take it to the smelter. Once melted, aluminium can be used to manufacture any aluminium product such as a bicycle, a window profile, a container or a car, among others.
“From Intercoiffure Spain we want to promote the application and dissemination of environmental values in the salons through this joint awareness campaign with two major companies such as ARPAL and ECOEMBES. With the main focus on the recycling of aluminum, so common in our salons, it is in our hands to give a useful life to aerosols and aluminum foils by depositing them in the yellow container, “says Luis Romero, president of Intercoiffure Spain.
Thanks to this process, water and energy are saved, the aluminium does not lose quality during recycling and CO2 emissions into the atmosphere are reduced. In fact, more than 75% of the aluminium manufactured for over 100 years is still in use thanks to recycling.
