Sonoco, a global leader in metal packaging, continues its global expansion following the acquisition of Eviosys in December 2024, standing out for its commitment to sustainability and technological innovation.
Among its main innovations is an augmented reality (AR) tool that allows brands to visualize packaging in 3D, customize colors, finishes, and designs in real time, and generate unique concepts using artificial intelligence. This platform streamlines the design and production process, reduces waste, and improves the customer experience.
Sonoco is also promoting three new elements in its packaging:
- Ecopeel™: three-piece can that reduces CO₂ emissions by 20%, offering fully recyclable and waste-free packaging.
- Horizon™ Overcap: ultra-lightweight and recyclable metal cap that reduces CO₂ emissions by 33%.
- Orbit™ 66: high-performance closure that halves the force required to open the package.
In addition, the company is exploring packaging trends aimed at Generation Z, in collaboration with the Caramel agency. These include solutions for confectionery, cookies, perfumery, spirits, tea, and coffee in premium or gift formats, aimed at attracting new consumers through creative and functional design.
These initiatives reinforce Sonoco’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, backed by its perfect score of 100/100 in the Ecovadis Platinum certification in environmental performance for two consecutive years.
Matt Brimble, Promotional NPD Manager at Sonoco Metal Packaging EMEA, stated:
“Our augmented reality tool reflects how we combine sustainability, technology, and design to offer smarter solutions to our customers.”
Aidan Ruddock, Commercial Director North Europe, highlighted:
“Our ability to produce locally in the UK allows customers greater flexibility, shorter lead times, and more sustainable supply chains, while we continue to invest in innovation and environmentally friendly solutions.”
