Next Thursday, October 23, starting at 10:30 a.m., the Verbum Museum will host a new edition of the Dissemination Conference on the Role of Women in the Fishing and Canning Sector, within the SEREAS: “Women of the Sea” program, promoted by FUNDAMAR and FUNPROMAR, with the collaboration of the Department of Equality of the Vigo City Council.

These conferences have become a benchmark for highlighting the contribution of women in fishing, seafood processing, management, innovation, and cultural creation. In this edition, the protagonists will be Pilar Carracelas, owner and manager of the historic ship “Loitador”, and Rebeca Filgueira, Director of Human Resources at Nauterra, who represent female leadership and professional experience in different areas of the sector.

Carracelas has led a family business dedicated to the sea from Cangas for almost four decades, symbolizing effort, identity, and continuity. Filgueira, with more than twenty years of experience, promotes diversity, equal opportunities, and a sustainable organizational culture within Nauterra. Both stories are featured in audiovisuals made by the Vigo City Council, reflecting the essence of the initiative: to highlight the role of women and project their legacy into the future.

The program also includes the round table “Women at the center: creation, memory and sea”, with the participation of:

  • Lorena Rosende (EMRA), showcasing international networks between women artisans and artists.
  • Amalia Puga (Proxecto Bolina), recovering the craftsmanship of Galician fishing nets and adapting it to contemporary design.
  • Paula Cabaleiro, curator of “O mar tamén é noso”, with audiovisual projects that connect female memory and contemporary creation.

The conferences seek to pay tribute to women who have made the sea their life and legacy, inspiring the sector and highlighting the importance of female leadership in its future.
