The British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association (BAMA) reported a moderate growth of 2% in filling volume during 2024, marking a recovery after several years of stagnation.
Key Findings:
The personal care category, which represents 75% of the UK aerosol market, grew by 3%. Highlights include:
- Sun protection and tanning products: +22.5%
- Antiperspirants: +5%
- Deodorants: +2.9%
- Shaving products: showed their first recent growth
The household products segment had slower growth, with decreases in air fresheners and furniture polish. However, other categories recorded significant increases:
- Insecticides: +27%
- Medical products: +5%
- Oven cleaners: doubled in volume
- Miscellaneous (glitter sprays, temporary dyes, etc.): notable growth
Packaging Trends:
Aluminum continues to gain ground and now represents 68% of packaging, up from 62% in 2023. Tin falls to 32%. Its lightness and recyclability drive this preference.
Exports:
70% of aerosols manufactured in the UK are exported, mainly to the European Union.
Changes in Consumption:
There is lower demand for body sprays and increased interest in antiperspirants and sun protection. Hair sprays show a decline, associated with changes in fashion trends.
Conclusion:
Despite global challenges, the aerosol format remains strong, innovative, and adaptable.
