No matter how you plan to celebrate New Year’s Eve this year, Molson Coors wants to help you do it responsibly. To make it easier, Coors Light and Miller Lite are sponsoring free rides on public transportation in seven U.S. cities, including, for the first time in many years, Washington D.C.

On December 31 and during the early hours of January 1, Coors Light will cover trips in Dallas, Denver and Phoenix, while Miller Lite will do the same in Charlotte, Chicago, Milwaukee and Washington D.C.

This is the 36th year that Molson Coors brands have offered free rides on New Year’s Eve in various U.S. cities, totaling millions of rides since 1988. In fact, this year the company expects to surpass 9 million free rides since the program began.

Alison Hanrahan, community affairs manager, explains that this program highlights Molson Coors’ commitment to responsible drinking.

“This program helps people celebrate responsibly by giving them a safe way to get home,” he says. “We are proud to be able to offer free rides in these markets for our consumers and employees.”

To spread the message, advertisements for free rides will soon appear on public transportation systems in the seven cities.

“You’ll see wraps on buses and trains that will help get the message across,” Hanrahan says. “We’re trying to introduce this to the market before New Year’s Eve, so people can plan and make it part of their holiday celebrations.”

Free trips throughout the year
Hanrahan notes that New Year’s Eve is not the only time Molson Coors sponsors free trips for consumers.

“We offer free rides year-round, including key holidays such as St. Patrick’s Day,” Hanrahan points out. “We also collaborate with our partners in baseball, basketball and professional soccer to offer a number of free trips.”

For the first time, Coors Light is also sponsoring free rides in Halifax, Nova Scotia, every Saturday in December, from 6 p.m. AST until the end of service.

Molson Coors Canada President Chantalle Butler says this is another example of how the company seeks to be a positive partner in local communities.

“This collaboration reinforces our commitment to promoting responsible enjoyment of our products, and we are proud to work alongside our partners to help improve road safety in Halifax.”
