The Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas (ABNT) has introduced a new technical quality standard for the aluminum beverage can industry. Known as ABNT NBR 17194 – Aluminum Packaging – Beverage Cans, this standard marks a milestone that positions Brazil as a global leader in quality regulation for this sector.
The standard aims to improve the safety and confidence of workers and consumers of aluminum canned beverages and ranges from basic concepts to detailed specifications.
The standard details the visual, dimensional and functional characteristics of aluminum cans, and includes requirements for transportation, handling, storage and packaging processes. With rigorous procedures, recommendations and precautions, ABNT NBR 17194 ensures that aluminum beverage packaging meets the highest quality standards.
Cátilo Cândido, CEO of the Brazilian Association of Aluminum Can Manufacturers (Abralatas), emphasized that the introduction of this standard reflects the industry’s unwavering commitment to excellence. Establishing high quality standards for aluminum cans strengthens confidence and safety throughout the production chain.
