Global aluminum recycling and roll-forming company Speira has announced the launch of a new sustainability label, RIVOS.
The launch of Speira’s new sustainability label, RIVOS, maximizes resource efficiency and minimizes the carbon footprint of products. By combining external scrap with low-carbon primary metal and adapting production to regional renewable energy opportunities, RIVOS products move toward the goal of net-zero emissions.
RIVOS represents aluminum produced with particularly low emissions, reinforcing Speira’s commitment to environmental stewardship. This label integrates efficient production methods, recycled content and renewable energy sources, creating a high quality and durable product with a reduced carbon footprint.
Products labeled with a maximum of 4.5 t CO₂ / t Al Target to achieve 0.5 t CO₂ / t Al Incorporates low-CO₂ primary aluminum, external scrap and regionally sustainable energy sources.
Meaning behind the synergy
The slogans “Reshaping Resources” and “Thinking in Life Cycles” are central to Speira’s mission of minimizing emissions through responsible resource management and cyclical thinking. This innovative approach is based on a three-pronged synergy that sets Speira apart in the industry: high external scrap usage, low-carbon primary metal and regional renewable energy. For example, in Norway, hydropower derived from fjords and waterfalls provides a clean source of energy for production. The name RIVOS – inspired by the Latin word for “river” – reflects this connection to sustainable energy use.
Speira is actively reducing the CO₂ footprint of laminated products, approaching net zero emissions. RIVOS reinforces this progress by transparently displaying carbon intensity, providing reassurance to customers and contributing to the environmental goals of end consumers. By choosing RIVOS, companies demonstrate their commitment to sustainability, promoting a circular economy.
Complementing the circularity approach
The aluminum recycling process is remarkably efficient, saving up to 95% of energy compared to primary production. Here, Speira’s first sustainability label comes into play, closing the circle: ORBIS, which means “circle” in Latin, is based on the closed-loop concept and stands for maximum transparency.
ORBIS offers aluminum solutions with high external scrap content, supporting sustainability without sacrificing quality. Label products with at least 75% external scrap High recycled content without compromising quality Certificates available on request.
