Novelis has announced its new sustainability initiative to promote aluminum as the material of choice for circular solutions. With Novelis 3×30, the company seeks to set ambitious carbon-related targets and define priorities to accelerate its decarbonization and circularity efforts.
Steve Fisher, president and CEO of Novelis explained that 3×30 is their roadmap to move faster in efforts to decarbonize their products and increase the circularity of aluminum.”
He added that they intend to accelerate progress and help their customers to achieve their own decarbonization goals in a shorter timeframe. “We are committed to innovating and implementing solutions that will significantly decarbonize aluminum and make it the material of choice for the circular economy.”
Growing consumer interest in sustainable products is driving demand for solutions with a lower carbon footprint, including the use of aluminum in the automotive; beverage, food and cosmetics packaging; construction; and aerospace industries, among others. The company believes that the 3×30 vision will enable it to help its customers reach their sustainability goals faster by focusing on three targets to meet by 2030:
- Exceed the limits for recycled content in its products, increasing its average recycled content to 75% from the current 63%.
- To become the supplier of rolled aluminum products with the lowest emissions, with less than 3 tons of CO2e per ton of flat rolled products shipped.
- Continue to invest as a pioneer to lead the industry towards circularity.
Novelis 3×30 builds on the company’s previous sustainability achievements, which include a 10 percentage point increase in its average recycled content and a 27% reduction in carbon emissions in FY2024 compared to its FY2016 baseline. These achievements have positioned Novelis at the forefront of the industry, with an average recycled content of 63%.
