Tata Steel, a globally recognized company in the steel industry, has reached an agreement with Imperial College London to create an Innovation Center dedicated to sustainable design and manufacturing in the British capital. This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will allow both institutions to work together on innovative initiatives that promote environmentally friendly practices in the industry.
Thanks to the creation of this center, the growth and use of technology in key areas will be boosted more rapidly, talented professionals will be attracted, and the relationship between industry and academic institutions will be strengthened.
In order to achieve the targets set, Tata Steel will allocate a budget of around £10 million over the next four years.
The center will also focus on four main areas: manufacturing for the economy of the future, smart manufacturing, sustainable technologies for joining different materials and net-zero emission building technologies. It will be dedicated to researching and developing processes that enable more sustainable manufacturing of materials, taking into account elements such as design, low CO2 emissions, reduced energy consumption and low costs.
T. V. Narendran, the CEO and MD of Tata Steel, said, “Our aim is to create synergies between research excellence and industry expertise to create cutting-edge technology solutions for a greener future. This initiative reaffirms Tata Steel’s unwavering commitment to creating a knowledge-intensive organization.”
