Novelis Inc. a leader in aluminum rolling and recycling, has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Ardagh Metal Packaging USA Corp. a company recognized worldwide for its sustainable aluminum can beverage packaging solutions.
Under the agreement, Novelis will be responsible for supplying aluminum foil for beverage containers to be produced at Ardagh’s metal facilities in North America.
This recent agreement is the third major contract Novelis has signed in less than seven months, focused specifically on the U.S. beverage packaging market.
“The completion of another significant agreement with customers in North America is a testament to the strength of the beverage packaging market in the region, which is being driven by consumers’ desire for more sustainable options,”
said Steve Fisher, president and CEO of Novelis. “Given its ability to be easily recycled in the same product, the aluminum beverage can is a sustainable packaging model” added the executive.
The most recent agreement comes at a time when Novelis is in the midst of building a new rolling and recycling plant in Bay Minette, Alabama. This plant will be the first of its kind in the United States in 40 years and will have the capacity to produce 600,000 tons of finished products for the beverage and automotive packaging markets in North America.
Ardagh Metal Packaging CEO Oliver Graham expressed his pride in the partnership with Novelis, a leading company in the production of sustainable and infinitely recyclable aluminum cans. Both companies share a focus on sustainability and innovation.
“Novelis has been part of our history since our founding, and we look forward to the new plant coming on line and supporting our continued growth.”
Aluminum company Novelis has optimistic forecasts for the future of global demand for aluminum foil used in beverage packaging. Steady growth of 4% is expected between 2023 and 2031 due to an increasingly strong trend toward sustainability among consumers and a greater variety in sizes and types of beverages being packaged in cans, including water, energy drinks, soft drinks, beer, wine, hard seltzers and cocktails.
