The can factory located in Dos Hermanas has announced that it will cease operations. The employees have expressed their rejection of the group layoff proposal presented by the company. The workers who have been at the plant for some time are against the plan to terminate their work due to the collective layoff plan presented by the company.

The multinational company Eviosys, owner of the well-known can factory in the city, has begun a collective layoff process that will affect 82% of its employees, as announced by the works council. This will also cause the closure and relocation out of Nazarena of this emblematic and historic factory. The can plant currently has a workforce of 66 employees, of which 54 would be directly affected if a layoff were to take place.

On October 18, the company’s management called a meeting with the employees’ committee and gave them a file with information on the massive layoffs that will affect almost all the workers, specifically 82% of the workforce.

The company Eviosys, which is a brand belonging to KPS Special Situation Funds, has argued that the file submitted is due to organizational and productivity reasons. In a statement sent to employees and suppliers, the company has mentioned that the objective of the project is to strengthen the position of its products against the competition. However, it has not yet begun negotiations with workers as required by current law.

At a staff meeting, they all showed their total disagreement and mutual support at a time of concern and worry for the future of their families due to a fact that they consider to be without any support. They are waiting for the negotiations to progress so that they can take the necessary legal measures.

The company, which used to be a can factory in Dos Hermanas, has a history of more than half a century. However, its number of employees has decreased drastically, from 300 to only 66. Despite this, it is still an important industry in Andalusia and recognized in Europe for its sector.
Over the years, the cannery has had several names such as Unimasa, Carnaud Metalbox, Crown Cork, Crown Closures and is currently known as Eviosys.
