The winner of the Student Starpack Awards has been announced. The Alupro association announced the new winner of the category category ‘multi-material packaging replacement’ in this year’s at this year’s Student Starpack Awards 2023. James Albosh of Nottingham Trent University achieved the podium for his ready meal packaging design.
As a reward for his achievements, James will receive the generous sum of £500 to support his studies. In addition, you will have the unique opportunity to visit one of Crown Packaging’s most modern manufacturing bases in the UK. During your site visit you will gain access to several facilities and will be able to ask direct questions about the design to the expert professionals working there.
James came up with the idea of building ‘Kahaan’ as a project to achieve his environmental purposes. These are reusable and recyclable materials used for the packaging of prepared foods. The design was inspired by the specific utensil we use when camping so that consumers can stack products on top of each other and also have a hidden handle for use as a stove pan if they want to cook on the stove.
Tom Giddings of Alupro said that all the projects submitted for the competition were impressive. “All of the entries submitted this year impressed the judging panel, but James’ design certainly stood out. Our brief encouraged applicants to think about the use of aluminum in innovative packaging design and Kahaan demonstrated this perfectly. The concept was incredibly well designed, with the unique advantage of the stovetop cooking feature demonstrating the true versatility of aluminum.”he added.
