Greenpeace, Extinction Rebellion, Frisse Wind announced action in late June near or at the Tata Steel facility in IJmuiden. The steel company shares the same ultimate goal with them: Reduction of emissions and the production of green steel with minimal impact on the environment and climate.
“When we disagree with Greenpeace, Extinction Rebellion, Frisse Wind and others on the path forward, we share the same ultimate goal. We see that in their eyes this can never go fast enough, and not in ours either,” stressed Hans van den Berg, CEO of Tata Steel Netherlands, reiterating the shared commitment to a more sustainable future.
“With thousands of Tata Steel employees and contractors, we work hard every day to further reduce our emissions and thus further limit the impact of our activities,”
Van den Berg added. “The first results are there and we are moving at a fast pace, but we are not yet where we want to be. We don’t stop until we have achieved our goals. We want to improve the living environment. With concrete measures and tangible results. That’s not an empty slogan, because those local residents, that’s us too. We are just as involved.
In addition to reducing emissions, Tata Steel is also focusing on the future of green steel. This means a transition to a completely different steel production, in which coal, blast furnaces and coke and gas plants are phased out.
