Beiersdorf Manufacturing Leipzig meets the highest environmental and sustainability standards, and has plans to develop a plant at a location called “Energy+” where they will be able to generate their own sustainable energy. The company has made an investment of almost 300 million euros in a single location, setting an all-time record for the company.

Beiersdorf opened its new production site in Leipzig on September 22. The event was attended by the Prime Minister of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer, the Mayor of Leipzig, Burkhard Jung, employees, suppliers and other guests to celebrate the successful start-up of the plant.

After a construction phase that lasted two years, the new state-of-the-art production plant called “El Centro” has been a great success in recent months. In the first quarter of this year, the first deodorants made in Leipzig were launched on the market. Three production lines are currently in operation and two more are expected to be added in the near future. The new plant is estimated to produce up to 450 million cosmetic products per year, including deodorants, hairsprays and shaving foams for the entire European market and for export.

The Beiersdorf company is adapting for the future and preparing its production facilities and supply chain in different parts of the world. Its largest project so far is the €300 million investment in the Leipzig-Seehausen plant, which also represents the largest investment made at a single site in the entire history of Beiersdorf.

Beiersdorf’s Chairman of the Executive Board, Vincent Warnery, expressed his happiness and pride at the official opening of the new state-of-the-art production center. “We are delighted and proud to officially open our new state-of-the-art production facility together with you today. Here in Germany, we are building the capacity for the long-term sustainable growth of our brands in Europe. The plant features state-of-the-art technology, the highest environmental standards and a unique and strong team. In addition to many employees from our Waldheim plant, we were also able to take on many new employees. We look forward to writing a success story in Leipzig, said the executive.

The production plant is distinguished by its high level of automation and its focus on the digitization of all processes, which ensures high efficiency and productivity. In addition, its modular and adaptable design allows for the rapid implementation of new innovations, trends, market demands or improvements in production processes.

Beiersdorf Manufacturing Leipzig is making a significant contribution to Beiersdorf’s CARE BEYOND SKIN sustainability agenda. The plant uses renewable energies and biogas to generate heat, which means that it operates largely without CO2 emissions. In addition, valuable resources such as heat, wastewater and ethanol are recovered and processed in a new plant. In the future, there are plans to convert the plant to an Energy+ site and generate more electricity than it consumes through photovoltaics. The newly opened factory has a positive impact on product sustainability, as it meets new technical standards that enable the launch of innovative and more environmentally friendly packaging solutions, such as aerosol cans made from recycled aluminum.
