The thyssenkrupp Rasselstein Group joined forces with the German company Julius Kleemann GmbH & Co.KG and Westerwald-Brauerei Hachenburg to launch a 5-liter beer keg made from CO2-reducing bluemint® steel as part of its efforts to be more environmentally friendly.
The Kleemann company has discovered a way to lower Westerwald Brewery’s carbon dioxide emissions by switching from its traditional kegs to those made with blue steel manufactured by them.

Hachenburger, the brewery, and Kleemann will work together to produce and fill kegs made of CO2-reduced steel packaging material. Thyssenkrupp Rasselstein will supply the material, while Kleeman will print the barrels. Finally, Hachenburger will add 100% aromatic hops to its production.
Peter Biele, CEO of thyssenkrupp Rasselstein GmbH, stated that the production of bluemint® steel for packaging has focused on decreasing CO2 emissions by using biomethane and previously processed steel scrap. These solutions can achieve up to 69% CO2 savings. In addition, tinplate packaging is recycled more frequently than other materials: 85.5% is recycled, making it the most recycled product in Europe.

In addition, Westerwald Brauerei is already climate neutral according to Scopes 1, 2 and 3 thanks to offsetting and would like to achieve this on its own by 2030 by generating more energy than it consumes. German steel manufacturer thyssenkrupp is pursuing a far-reaching goal: to achieve climate neutrality by 2045.
