AkzoNobel Packaging Coatings announced the creation of a safe alternative for can and coil coater manufacturers looking to increase their Bisphenol A-free transition.

Accelshield 700 liner is BPA-NI free and contains no bisphenol-based epoxies during the manufacturing process. In addition, it complies with the standards required by the FDA and the EU to ensure greater food safety.

Following the recent European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) opinion on BPA restrictions in metal food and beverage containers, this new product will help meet the increased demand for alternative coatings.

According to Chris Bradford, administration and marketing manager for AkzoNobel Packaging Coatings, “With today’s technological advances, bisphenols are no longer necessary to create safe coatings for state-of-the-art metal can packaging. BPA-NI coatings are a significant innovation, marking a critical turning point for the industry. Accelshield 700 will help can makers prepare their selection for the future.”

The new coating has been designed for challenging foods and liquids, including those that are highly acidic or require high-temperature sterilization processes, such as yogurt, milk and coffee drinks, as well as soft drinks and beer.

Accelshield 700 is a perfect solution for can makers who want to follow the manufacturing process without interruptions.
