ANFACO-CECOPESCA, a Spanish association of Galician fishermen and canned food producers, decided to take its inventory to New York to promote its products at Summer Fancy Food, the annual convention that brings together companies from the agri-food sector in the United States. This allowed Spanish professionals to present their offer in the second most important non-EU market for Spain in this sector.


This organization, which participated under the institutional protection of the Xunta de Galicia in the Spanish Pavilion organized by ICEX, offered information to all those interested in learning about the products and establishing contact with its associated companies. Its objective is none other than to promote the internationalization of its industrial fabric, exploring business opportunities in a market that this sector has identified as a priority.


This important event was also attended by such important companies as Conservas Cerqueira, Conservas del Noroeste – CONNORSA, Conservas La Brújula – Ramón Franco, Conservas Mariscadora and Real Conservera Española. Cataliment, Conservas Portomar, Conservas Santoña, Eurocaviar and Ubago were also present.
Last year, Spanish industry had a high level of exports to the United States, mainly of seafood products. Sales are estimated to have exceeded 237 million euros, with frozen octopus being the leading exported product. With respect to prepared and preserved fish and shellfish, Spain exported 6,900 tons valued at 68 million euros, the main products sold being cephalopods, prepared or preserved; prepared and preserved tuna and mussels, prepared or preserved, among others.
