Steel firm Tata Steel recently announced its strong support for the Chartered Institute of Wastes Management (CIWM) CYMRU Resources Conference. The event, held on March 22, was programmed to inspire CIWM members looking to take their sustainability and waste management initiatives to the next level.
This event provided accurate information on product manufacturers and vendors, along with contact details for the purpose of aiding decision making at the time of purchase.
Nicola Jones, steel packaging recycling manager at Tata Steel, highlighted the vital role of steel packaging recycling in the global transition to a circular economy in her presentation which ran under the title.
‘What quality materials look like in a circular economy’.
Recycling steel is very simple for consumers. From a food can, an aerosol can, to a pet food container, all can be recycled in the selective collection of waste at home. As steel is a magnetic material, it is also among the simplest to extract from the waste stream.
A clear example is the Port Talbot steel plant, owned by Tata Steel and the largest in the United Kingdom, which recycles approximately 500,000 tons of scrap per year, including packaging from household waste.
