Steel company Tata Steel International has revealed new details of Calvo Group’s ‘Tilt Easy’ packaging, launching in 2020. This innovation is based on the use of the so-called ‘BPA-free Protact’, a material created by Tata that includes a PP inner layer to seal the container with the ‘Easy Flip’ lid , and is suitable for easy opening and closing of the container.
The innovation in ringless canning brings with it great benefits, such as less use of steel. This avoids the need to give the gasket a cylindrical shape for anchoring, resulting in considerable savings. In addition, this simplified procedure helps to reduce food waste during product extraction.
This innovation in the field of packaging has proven to be a step forward in improving food preservation. The coating is designed with inert polymers of three multicolored layers, including white, metallic, silver or gold that offer organoleptic characteristics and low levels of porosity; which contributes to preserve the natural flavors at the time of canning.
For his part, Huib Simon, Tata Steel’s director of packaging marketing, reported that the polymer coating system Protact has simplified the manufacturing processes for the production of cans, while reducing the environmental impact and the levels of energy and water used as well as emissions. In addition, he pointed out that this technique offers the adaptability for new designs and formats such as pieces with two or three components.
